The farewell is signed by Yang in an official statement in which enshrines his farewell to Yahoo so much as Yahoo Japan and Alibaba. These were his last words: “My time at Yahoo, the foundation to date has focused on some of the most exciting and rewarding experiences of my life. However, it came time for me to pursue other interests outside of Yahoo. As I leave the company that I co-founded 17 years ago, are excited about the ability of Scott Thompson as CEO, along with his entire team, will lead the way for Yahoo in the future.”

From the top management of the Group of Sunnyvale come naturally thanks to Yang for his commitment and his service, thus closing so the closure of an adventure lasting nearly two decades. And Wall Street reacted immediately comfortable, with an immediate rebound in YHOO shares in after-hours market after a day spent largely on the sly.

The departure of Yang inexorably opens new perspectives within the group, although at the time it is not clear what might happen. Yang, in fact, has always held the reins of the company whatever its role. In the role of CEO has also made the most resounding failure of the entire history of the group, refusing a sensational bid from Microsoft on the eve of the economic crisis that led to the fall in a short time at the beginning of the bags and the end of the golden age of the engine of Sunnyvale. Once passed the reins to Carol Bartz, Yang still remained behind the scenes to monitor the negotiations with Steve Ballmer and finally fire Bartz for the same because of poor results.

The last chapter has been signed in the night: Yang leaves office in each group and definitely separates his fate from those of Yahoo. Even the word “definitely” be understood in relative terms, however, Jerry Yang is always one of the largest shareholders of the company and its shadow is designed to hover and must be behind every future decision. But no purple chair will be waiting for more: Yahoo goes its way, for the first time without Yang.
