Windows 8, Microsoft leads the revolution

Windows 8 can now be tried by all means the Consumer Preview: Microsoft starts the revolution in desktop and mobile sectors.

The audience was disappointed with Vista; it was rebuilt with interest through Seven, now wants to revolutionize an industry in which is the absolute ruler. And to do that, the tip firmly on Windows 8, which has just presented onstage at the Mobile World Congress, the first Consumer Preview. This is clearly Microsoft, which has made public what has been achieved to date by its engineers in developing the next edition of the operating system’s most famous desktop.

The latter, moreover, is only one of the target audiences for Windows 8, who has already registered its name to the list of candidates for the role of antagonist in the number of iOS tablet segment. This choice, evident from the very outset, from the first impact with the new reality represented by Windows 8, which undresses the role of the operating system dedicated exclusively to desktops or laptops to dress as a platform that can adapt as needed also profoundly different devices such as digital tablets, thanks to an interface designed to offer just that possibility.

Just the new interface Metro is one of the key points of Windows 8, but does not preclude the use of a traditional desktop, accessible through a simple click and necessary to perform some operations. Graphically quite similar to Windows Phone 7, which incorporates a number of aesthetic traits to adapt to a radically different context, the new UI is also the symbol of the desire by Microsoft to offer something new, something that has not already been seen, and something to give back his trademark in the world of high-tech.

Over a hundred thousand changes have been made by the development team than the Developer Preview of last September, confirming that the yards in that Redmond are constantly working to churn out a product that can represent the present and future operating systems. Everything, regardless of the device that users will have on their hands: they said during the presentation of Steven Sinofsky, as a result of market developments are increasingly faced with a choice in some cases because of the embarrassing incredible number of solutions available to them, also quite heterogeneous between them. Whatever one preferred by each user, Microsoft intends to be present with Windows 8, which somehow becomes independent of the hardware to deliver the same user experience, the same functionality, the same characteristics.

The corners of the screen then become Windows 8 a new system of interaction, as each of them appears to be dedicated to a different purpose: one in the lower left, for example, allows you to quickly return to the Start screen, which now replaces the classic menu of the same name, while the right shows a progress bar by which you can access a range of features for managing settings and other utilities. Each app is compatible with Subway that can be launched in full screen mode, and by simple operations you can switch between them quickly.

Integration with other services and products target Redmond, such as the Xbox game console, or the cloud sauce cyberlocker in SkyDrive, then allow users to experience 360 degrees in Microsoft style, being able to have tools not previously available or by synchronizing your files across multiple devices. All this are with a simple mouse click or, depending on context, a touch of fingers.

Windows 8, in short, is not ready yet in its final version, but already promises to be a hard to earlier versions of the Microsoft platform license plate. The times are definitely not yet ready to express a final opinion, which may be reached only after the stable release, but the feeling is that this time Microsoft has managed to hit the target, potentially offering an operating system capable of represent a real revolution in the past.

The only question right now concerns the timing of adaptation to the new interface, which could be at first more a hindrance than a new feature for novice users: proceeding with the use of Windows 8, however, all could result in a short time, thanks to its ease of use of the same careful study and implemented by Microsoft in terms of usability.
