Nokia, no plan for the tablet

Nokia has no plans to produce tablets in the short term: to say this is the CEO of the Finnish company, Stephen Elop.

The ascent of Nokia to regain the lost positions in time for the segment will be primarily smartphones, thanks to its marriage with Microsoft that gave birth to the first of the Finnish Windows Phone. The Group CEO Stephen Elop has in fact publicly stressed how the company has no current short-term strategy for the production of tablets.

The words “we will produce a tablet” of last April, in short, entirely new connotations now take: yes, Nokia does not want to pass up the opportunity to have a say in an industry that sees every month to raise their numbers and thus becomes an increasingly important part of the digital market, but does not currently intend to expose themselves in a direct manner. The Finnish group therefore prefers to stay behind the scenes to monitor carefully the evolution of a rapidly expanding field such as that of the tablet, coming into play only when appropriate.

The first tablets characterized by the brand of the company, based in Espoo will not come on the market within a short time, almost certainly not before the operating system Windows 8. The latter, being strongly oriented to the world of tablets, could fall in the agreements signed with Microsoft in early 2011 and are probably intended to represent a milestone in the short and medium term strategies of both companies, especially the importance of economic capital at stake.

In Finland, in short, for the moment all is quiet on the front of the digital tablets: the first Nokia Windows Phone are seeing mostly favorable opinions among users as the company is preparing to launch a new wave of devices to further enrich its offer and enable it to new potential customers to have a wider range of devices to choose from.
