The deal is closed, now you can say in an official and definitive: Microsoft bought Skype; Skype is part of the Microsoft group of companies. The announcement of the agreement was finalized in May on the basis of a compensation amounting to 8.5 billion dollars to monetize Skype’s growth and Microsoft could make its service unique and a leader in its sector.

The news was made official following the placet of anti-European, whose green light has definitely paved the way for the acquisition. Microsoft explains how not all countries have already received antitrust approval, but there is full confidence that this can happen in short order. The moment of celebration has already begun and the cutting of the ribbon inaugurating a new era: Skype will now be absorbed into Microsoft every point of view, starting from the development process to the details of the integration at a technical level.

Skype will work in Microsoft as an autonomous division, led by the same former CEO Tony Bates before the acquisition of Skype. Bates will report directly to Steve Ballmer, who has blessed so the eagerly awaited day: “Skype is a phenomenal product and a brand loved by hundreds of millions of people around the world. We plan to work with the Skype team to create new ways for people to stay connected with family, friends, clients and colleagues, anytime, anywhere.”

Tony Bates, for his part, underlined with a joint blog on Microsoft and Skype excitement for the possibility of operating under the roof of Microsoft with the aim to integrate the quality of Skype in Redmond Technologies. Skype, explains Tony Bates, “intends to accelerate its mission and its position to capitalize on the intersection of social communications, mobile and video. Microsoft wants to ensure the ubiquity of Skype experience – the communication on each device and each platform is the first objective. We have just scratched the surface.”

The activity of Skype will be smeared on every single area in which Microsoft is already operational: the world Xbox to Windows Phone, Windows 8 to VoIP company, via Windows Live Messenger and so on. Microsoft has an investment of 8.5 billion to be put to good use and Steve Ballmer has a duty to justify to shareholders the importance of an operation of this magnitude: it’s easy to assume as the first results of the operation are destined to come to the attention of the market already in a relatively short time.
