Google’s cloud computing infrastructure could soon become the basis of email communication and online collaboration in the offices of General Motors. So much for Google and the historic U.S. automotive manufacturer it would be a major step forward and that is why the issue is observed with great attention.

Although the Wall Street Journal has given initially established for the agreement, the parties do not actually have yet closed the contract. In this evaluation phase, in particular, Google will have to demonstrate that the offer as Google App is able to perform to specific parameters, which is critical to the final signing. Meanwhile, the competition could play the last card, but the feeling is that, in the absence of plot twists, the games are now made.

In the past, General Motors used the suite of IBM Lotus Notes, but for the future, the intention was to switch to other investment entrusting these functions to a cloud infrastructure. There are two main candidates in this regard: Google and Microsoft. Google would be an advantage at this stage, all thanks to substantial discounts that can reduce the cost of $ 50 per year that Google provides for the annual subscription of each user services at (100,000 in the case of General Motors, for a total value of the order of approximately $ 3 million).

The Group of Mountain View, however, to date has never won such orders: succeeding to take up the General Motors contract would be a symbolic conquest to be bandied about to attract customers further and to demonstrate the validity of the offer. It is this latter consideration in the most precious value of the GM contract.
